The Czech Yacht Club is the cradle of organized yachting in the the Lands of the Bohemian Crown and is one of the oldest yacht clubs in Central Europe. It was founded in 1893 by Josef Rössler-Ořovský, a great yachtsman and pioneer in many other sports. The club members also founded the Czechoslovak Olympic Committee. The Czech Yacht Club´s three-storey shipyard was built on the quay of the Podolí protective harbour in 1912 on the initiative of Rössler-Ořovský. The boathouse is a unique woodden building with a fully equipped clubhouse and changing rooms for members. In 2008 it was declared a cultural monument.
